Winter activities in Valle Aurina

Cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice skating and more.

Frau Holle – the pillow-shaking, snow-making old lady made famous by the Brothers Grimm – must be from Valle Aurina. In winter, her handiwork never fails to delight. The deep snow-covered landscape around Campo Tures is a white winter playground for the young and the young at heart, for active sportspeople and for all those who can’t get enough of snow. Discover the highlights of the numerous winter activities in Valle Aurina:

Cross-country skiing

One of the most popular winter activities in Valle Aurina is Nordic skiing. It’s hardly surprising, as we are part of Dolomiti Nordic Ski, Europe’s largest cross-country skiing carousel with over 1,000 kilometres of trails. For some years now, Riva di Tures has been the hub of our cross-country skiing world. The mountain village has its own cross-country skiing centre. There are over 50 kilometres of skating and cross-country skiing trails for you to enjoy as long as you please. You can also hire equipment and sign up for lessons here.

Tobogganing

Could there be any more fun than tobogganing? Hop on a toboggan with us and speed down into the valley! Winter sunshine or floodlight – every village in Valle Aurina boasts several toboggan runs of all levels of difficulty. This winter activity is especially fun with family and friends. Or with host Sepp, who will teach you how to win the next toboggan race for sure.

Ice skating

Let us take you out on the ice! There are several possibilities to let your inner ice princess out in Valle Aurina. The Campo Tures ice rink is only a few minutes’ walk from Hotel Alte Mühle, where you can do pirouettes or enjoy a round of curling. Further into the valley you will find beautiful lakes that turn into natural ice rinks on frosty days.

Horseback riding and carriage rides

Valle Aurina is a “horse valley”. In the wild east of South Tyrol, as the area likes to be called, there are plenty of opportunities for horseback riding or carriage rides. Jump into the saddle and gallop through the snow or enjoy a sleigh ride through the countryside pulled by Haflinger horses. How romantic!
